Sports Injuries

Working one-on-one with our patients who have sustained sports injuries, we aim to help people return to their favorite sport as quickly as possible.

Whether you are a trained and professional athlete or a weekend runner or summer golfer, we can create a specific treatment program for you that will ease your pain and help prevent your sprain, strain or fracture from recurring.

Spinal/Back Rehabilitation with Physical Therapy

In the United States alone, almost 90 percent of people experience severe back and neck pain at some point in their lives. Watch our video on how to stretch your neck muscles.

Physical therapy has been found to be particularly effective in spinal rehabilitation and in preventing the recurrence of injuries.

Many factors can play a role in spine stabilization and rehabilitation programs including your spinal mobility, your core strength and your range of motion.

Functional Dry Needling

Functional Dry Needling (FDN) is a therapeutic technique that uses thin monofilament needles to treat muscle trigger points, which are creating pain and discomfort.  A trigger point is an area of the muscle that has taught bands of tissue (knots within a muscle) which can develop due to injury, overuse and musculoskeletal dysfunction.

FDN can be used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal issues including: neck and back pain, shoulder pain, arm pain (tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, golfer's elbow), tension headaches, knee pain, foot pain and leg pain (sciatica, hamstring strain, calf tightness) and more.

Workers’ Compensation Cases

At Physical Therapy Advantage, we will work with your physician and insurance provider to assist in your recovery following workplace injuries. We can devise a gradual return to work process if needed.

In addition, we offer ergonomic workplace counseling, functional capacity evaluations and work conditioning programs.

Orthopedic Injuries

Our staff has years of experience and study into correcting injuries and conditions that impact the skeletal system and its associated joints, muscles and ligaments.

We stress the use of manual therapy and other hands-on treatments to ease your pain and help you get back to your normal lifestyle as quickly as possible.

We will also spend one-on-one time with you to discuss your injury and to determine how you can prevent it from recurring.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy is a series of exercises custom-designed to help re-train your central nervous system and address your inner ear deficits.

It is also helpful in solving other vestibular issues such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis.

Custom Foot Orthotics

Any device that is used to support and align a body part is known as an orthotic. Many people are in need of foot orthotics that can be worn inside their shoes to ease the pain and correct problems caused by foot deformities or dysfunction in the foot.

They are also effective in reducing the pain of Plantar Fasciitis and in reducing strain on the lower legs and feet.

Video Analysis of Sports Specific Injuries

Physical therapists and athletic trainers can use video to suggest technique corrections for athletes and to study gait analysis and other issues of body movement for maximum performance.

Pediatric Rehabilitation

Children whose lives are changed by conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, seizure disorder, Down syndrome, and brain injuries, among other issues, require special skills and compassion from their physical therapist.

We are pleased to be able to offer pediatric rehabilitation programs that address their orthopedic issues and are custom-designed to help each child alleviate pain and be as strong as possible.

Augmented Soft Tissue Mobilization (ASTYM)

Augmented Soft Tissue Mobilization is a form of manual therapy, except that a special set of plastic instruments is used on the patient, rather than the therapists’ hands. These instruments help locate and treat unhealthy tissue. It is effective as well in removing scar tissue that can be restricting movement.

ASTYM is often effective in treating soft tissue problems that have become chronic and unresponsive to other forms of treatment.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a soft tissue therapy used to treat painful skeletal muscles. The fascia is the thin, elastic connective tissue that protects and supports the human body structure.

If it becomes inactive or restricted, you will feel tension and pain.

Manual Therapy

Programs of manual therapy can be particularly effective in reducing inflammation and starting tissue repair as well as to improve function.

This traditional, hands on approach works well with joint mobilization, range of motion restoration and soft tissue and deep tissue mobilization.

Running Gait Analysis

A gait analysis is when the physical therapist scientifically studies how you walk and run. Specially designed instruments for measuring body movement are used in the process.

It is helpful for any patients whose ability to walk has been impacted by an injury or condition, as well as for athletes who want their bodies to perform to the maximum.

Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorders

Pain and/or reduced movement in the jaw area are referred to as temporal mandibular joint disorders.

Physical therapy has been found to be extremely effective in treating these conditions and usually results in complete restoration of movement.
