Good morning, happy Wednesday and welcome to your Weekly Cup of Joe. My name is Joe King and I'm the owner of Physical Therapy Advantage in North Aurora. And we're here today and we're going to talk a little bit about posture and what you can do to help yourself throughout the day. We just got done with a two-part series of posture and sleeping and pillows you use to help support yourself. We're just going to talk about general posture throughout the day. As we talked about in our first part series, our first one, two weeks ago is that we talked about just being in a better posture, knowing what better posture is. So if we can align ourselves; ear holes, mid of our shoulders, mid of our trunk and our hips, that is what we're looking for the majority of the day.

Typically we get into a position of slouch position, sometimes it's way worse, sometimes it's not so bad, but we don't have to be in, what most people sometimes think is we have to be in a military position or forced dump position being like that. That's not what we're looking for either, because that's what causes its own problems at some point in time. So the best thing to do during the day is to set an alarm on your phone to go off it every 20 to 30 minutes, 45 minutes maximum, but have that alarm go off, continue every 45 minutes, every 30 minutes, every 20 minutes to give you a continuous reset option. So use your handy-dan cell phone because almost everybody has it. Or you can put an alarm set on your computer if you work at your computer all day long, just to give you that reminder, or you have a hot pink sticky note on your computer, on your desk there to say reset or posture, whatever it is so that you know what you need to do that every 20 or 30 minutes as you're working. And I get in this position and all of a sudden the alarm goes off, oh, I go back up.

You do that continuously for two or three weeks. Eventually, this becomes your normal and this does not. And so when you start to slouch, you start to catch yourself and you'll reposition automatically before the alarm even goes off, whether you're standing or you're sitting. So the alarm on your phone looks great. So you could do it during your car ride, if you have a long commute or you're running errands or you do it being the Uber mom and running kids back and forth all over the place that will help reset your posture during the car rides at that time too, or standing in the kitchen, doing work or prep, work for dinner, whatever it may be. Hope this tips help; I find it very useful for my clients. If you have any other questions regarding posture or aches and pains that you may be having, please don't hesitate to give us a call at (630) 892-8003, I or any of our PT staff would be more than happy to talk to you about this. And we look forward to seeing you next week for your Weekly Cup of Joe. Bye.
