Good morning. My name is Joe King and welcome to your Weekly Cup Of Joe! This week we are going to be talking about taking care of yourself. So if you could raise your hand---won't be able to see it--- but kind of raise your hand if you fall into that boat where sometimes we just don't take the best care of ourselves, we put ourselves last. I used to be that way. I'm definitely not quite like that anymore. I definitely try to do a little bit better with that and put myself first, but don't realize how important it is to really put yourself first. And as I tell all my clients, it's so easy for me to tell you, to put yourself first and take care of yourself like you're supposed to take care of yourself, because you don't put yourself first, no one else is going to. But you want to be the caregiver, you want to be the person people rely on, so you're wanting to help them out and basically do things for other people, and that's totally fine. But if you're not taking care of yourself, you have to think about it this way, you're not going to be the best person that you can be. You can't be the best mom, the best dad, grandma, grandpa, best friend, coworker, neighbour, whomever it may be. You're not going to be your best if you don't take care of yourself. So you need to make sure that you're getting the right amount of sleep, that you are exercising or taking care of yourself, and you're eating and having the right diet as best you possibly can. That doesn't mean that you restrict everything, and you go totally, from where you're at, to say I need to go and do a vegan diet or do some crazy diet that's out there.
You just need to eat healthily and eat a little bit better and take care of yourself and just be happy. Because like I said, if you're not taking care of yourself you're not going to be the best version of yourself, and you need to be authentic and you need to be true to yourself and true to your values. But if you don't take care of yourself, those things don't happen, and things get a lot more stressful at that point in time. So just think about that, and really think about how you take care of yourself during the day and during the week, and how can you do better. You don't have to do it in leaps and bounds to start with, you take one little thing each week and say, I'm going to do this week and take care of myself, and you get a nice routine for there and then maybe this week or two later, you add something else to it. Then you start to really see that, wow, if I take care of myself and it doesn't have to be all at once during the day, you're all at once during the week, those things add up and you start to feel a little better about yourself and you're still a lot more true to yourself and you can take care of other people better than everything else, so it just kind of rolls into one to the other.
So hope this tip helps. It's more of a personal self-help type of thing, but definitely, it's worth thinking about. And like I said, we always want to be the most authentic and best versions of ourselves so we can be the best people that we can be and help as many people as we possibly can. So that's what we're here for. So if you have any questions about that or any physical therapy-related questions or health or wellness-related questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call at Physical Therapy Advantage (630)- 892-8003.
