Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorders

Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorders in Aurora, IL

The jaw is the most used joint in the human body! You use your Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) for eating, talking, breathing, and facial expressions. But when your jaw joint starts to hurt and doesn’t stop, it becomes Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorder (TMJD).

Pain and tenderness are often symptoms of TMJD, but not everyone has pain. Here are other symptoms:

  • Jaw clicks
  • Popping noises
  • Teeth grinding
  • Not being able to open your mouth all the way
  • Jaw deviates when you open your mouth (you can probably see it opening crooked in the mirror)
  • Not being able to close or clench your jaw fully

Grinding or clenching your teeth increase your chances of getting Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorders. You can also get headaches, ear pain, dizziness, or neck pain. If you have ringing in your ears (Tinnitus), it could be TMJ.
